HikerKidz is an initiative to get kids outdoors and to enjoy themselves in the process. Over on Instagram, we share our adventures and hikes with a great like-minded community.
Back in January, we held our first Hikerkidz meet up. Despite 50mph hour winds, it went very well. We walked around Mom Tor in the Peak District, as it was far too windy to go up!
The second meet up was at Luds Church, again in the peak District, where we met up with 3 other families. There was a total of 12 kids! We laughed, hiked, rolled down hills and had an absolute blast.
Where is the next meet up?
Meet up number 3 is set for the 28th July 2019 at Padley Gorge in the Peak District. We are meeting at 11am, on the Longshaw Estate car park. This is free if you are a National Trust member, or £4 all day. Postcode is S11 7TZ. The walk will take 3-4 hours. This allows for plenty of rest stops and chances to play and explore!
Maverick Snacks have kindly sent us SO many munchies to take with us, with prompt cards to have a bit of fun along the way. Their snacks are nutritious, allergen friendly and create a mischief maker out of anybody!
Ordnance Survey are also on board with HikerKidz and have kindly offered a discount for families on their OS Maps subscription. Their #GetOutside program is simply amazing and it is an honour that they acknowledge our efforts to get kids outdoors in fun and friendly ways.
We are super excited to get the 3rd meet going and we would love for you to join us too.
What do I need to do?
All we ask is that there is a responsible parent with the children, and you bring suitable snacks and drinks for your child.
The weather should be dry and sunny and there is a chance to go paddling in the river. Grindleford Cafe is a stop on the route. Bring some change if you want refreshments, as they don’t take card payments. And, an ice-cream van is in prime position after said river paddle for the perfect summer treat after a long hike.
If you would like to join us, please head over to our Facebook page (accessible from the icon at the top of the page) and join the event!
We would LOVE to see you there!
